Nectar Entertainment has signed Damien Rossi to a six-month directorial contract that calls for him to turn in three videos a month, one for Nectar and two for 1st Strike Entertainment.
Rossis first release for Nectar, Evil Bitches, has already begun shipping and streets on Friday.
Nectar Entertainment CEO Sean Logan was looking for new directors when adult producer Melissa Monet suggested that Rossi might be a good match.
I need to send Nectar a huge thanks, for their vote of confidence,” Rossi said. “Ive dabbled in directing before, but I didnt really have anything to show them. They hired me solely on the basis of Melissas recommendation and a portfolio of my stills.
Of course, since Rossi has a portfolio that includes stills from seven years worth of adult movie sets including his two-year tenure as Vivid Entertainments principle stills photographer, Nectars gamble wasnt as risky as it might sound.
Photographers can easily adapt to directing in adult. Look at Jonni Darkko and Laurent Sky, both stills photographers who became great directors,” Logan said. “We knew Damien was going to turn out to be an amazing new directorial talent after our first meeting with him because of the obvious passion he feels about his work.
Evil Bitches, his first movie for Nectar, was originally slated for a December release but our post-production staff just went crazy over it and basically demanded we release it immediately.
Rossi admits that he relies heavily on his photography background when making a movie. Im not shooting dialogue movies. Im still shooting pictures,” he said. “Im going from creating pictures to creating a series of pictures. Every single frame is a still, so for me its like throwing stills together.
To that end, when shooting a movie for Nectar, Rossi creates high-concept sets and prefers elaborate wardrobes that often reflect his penchant for fetish.
I began my career applying a fashion photography look to fetish something that is commonplace now, but 12 years ago it was a novelty,” he continued. “Ive carried that look over into my adult movies, and I like show the girls stills of themselves before they start their scenes and that always generates a positive reaction that ends up in their scenes.
Rossi puts a little more effort and polish into the bigger budget work he does for Nectar than he does for 1st Strike Entertainment movies, but still maintains a higher-than-average production standard. Even when Im shooting for 1st Strike Im not simply throwing them against the wall and letting them go at it I take the time to find the best lighting possible and get the best angles and I like to think my professionalism sets a standard that is maintained by everyone on my set, especially the performers,” Rossi said.
He added, Working for Vivid was a great learning experience for me. I noticed that when performers come on to a set that they know is going to be high quality, they give more. Women in particular seem to perform at a higher level when they realize its not just another couch scene.
Not that I have any illusions about what Im doing. At the end of the day, I want people to jack off. Im making porn and that means my goal is to turn people on. I want the sex to be as real as possible, but the high-concept aspect of my work provides just a little more sexual tension that helps the performers to take it to the next level.”
Rossi went on to discuss his approach.
I always tell talent to imagine that you met this person at the bar and you cant wait to get this person home to rip their clothes off and have great sex and then never see them again,” he explained. “Most of the sex scenes Ive shot have really captured that.
I like seeing extreme close-ups as compared to the standard wide shot of people having sex. Show me a womans face during sex, her eyes rolling back in head or her lips opening in a groan thats erotic, thats sexual tension, and thats what I want to see.
If there is anything Ive learned over the years, it’s shoot what you love. And thats what youre going to see on my movies for Nectar.
Red Light District and Platinum X Pictures will join Interscope Records for a high-profile co-promotion this weekend at the seventh annual Mix Show Power Summit in Fremont, The Bahamas.
Interscope, the powerhouse record label that works with superstar artists such as 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre and G-Unit, initially had approached Red Light and Platinum X about obtaining product to play on the Anger Management Tour during private parties. Then the companies began discussing working together for promotions like this one.
We thought what if we were to join forces and promote Red Light and Platinum X direct to the streets, to the DJs, worldwide on the national tours of major artists, and also in general, with our participation in various parties, said Larry Schwarz, director of public relations for sister companies Red Light and Platinum X.
The Mix Show Power Summit annually attracts the major players in hip-hop and urban entertainment, from producers, managers and DJs to record label executives and platinum-selling artists. There will be an awards show on Saturday night.
Thousands of people from all over the country will be there, Schwarz said. Interscope is the single largest distributor in the world, and they have been for approximately 15 years. They have some of the top artists in the hip-hop community.
Red Light and Platinum X have tapped LA Direct Models for 21 girls who will attend the event at the Grand Fremont Hotel on behalf of the companies.
The following LA Direct girls are scheduled to go: Stacey Sweet, Mia Bangg, Nadia Hilton, Nikki Nievez, Kylie Worthy, Randi Wright, Sara Stone, Trina Michaels, Stephanie Tripp, Staci Thorn, Dillan Lauren, Haley Paige, Jada Fire, Kat, Sydney Capri and Kaiya Lynn. Agent Lisa Ann will be traveling with the group, along with Larry and wife Debbie Schwarz.
The girls will be attending parties and the awards show, while promoting Red Light and Platinum X, which will have banners and posters decorating the resort.
Were really excited about this, Larry Schwarz said. This is the first Ive ever heard of anyone doing something like this. This is a long-term relationship that we hope to be involved with. We want to have some of the major artists do cameos in our movies, not necessarily performing, but introducing scenes and things of that nature. We want to be involved in their worldwide tour for next year and directly involve major talent from all over the [adult] industry.
The adult contingent will arrive in The Bahamas on Friday morning and attend a reception and cocktail party that night before going to the awards and after-parties on Saturday and hanging out on Sunday.
Our movies will be being played in the private areas, Schwarz said, adding he will also be bringing DVD trailers to hand out.
Schwarz said that Red Light and Platinum X are planning another party for major DJs in late October in Las Vegas.
This is just the beginning as far as Im concerned, he said.
